Retro: Models from the Past
BY C STONE | THE SUPER HOT ||| EDITOR IN CHIEF ||| RETRO MODELLING
A glimpse into the past is always fascinating. From here, we can learn from past themes and makeup styles. Using old magazine covers and fashion shoot images, we can learn quite a lot about what drove the industry 50-60 years ago.
In the 1970's, the average magazine price was less than $1 - can you believe it?
If there's one common theme, it's the fact there are no ugly people on these magazine covers. Looking closely, you can see the detail in the makeup and contrasting styles.
The 1960's hold a special place in my heart. It shows the fashion of women moving away from the convention 1950's look into a more dynamic, and wide-ranging style and accessories list.
It must have been difficult for women to work back then. All the ugly stereotypes are present in the magazine titles. Even today, it's not hard to spot the line.
But seventeen magazine. what a difference. It showed the difference between adult-women magazines and teenage ones. How the styles were completely different.
It's 1967, and this girl is spotted wearing a lavender ribbon dress. Just wow. The matching hairband is sweet.
We'll cover more in the next few weeks. We hope you enjoyed!
