Early Life and Family

Ariana Grande-Butera was born on June 26, 1993, in Boca Raton, Florida, and is of Italian descent, being half Sicilian and half Abruzzese. Her name was inspired by Princess Oriana from the cartoon Felix the Cat, though ironically, she is allergic to cats. She has an older half-brother, Frankie Grande, who is a musical theater actor and producer. Ariana’s parents split when she was around 8 or 9, and she is very close to her mother, often calling her her best friend. 

Ariana began her career on Broadway at age 13, playing Charlotte in the musical 13, and won a National Youth Theatre Association Award for her debut performance. She later starred on Nickelodeon shows Victorious and Sam & Cat, where she played Cat Valentine. Her breakthrough single as a solo artist was The Way, featuring Mac Miller.

 In 2019, she became the first artist since The Beatles to hold the top three spots on the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously with 7 Rings, Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored, and Thank U, Next.
