The Era of Miserable Models in Fashion

Perhaps it's me, but back in the 70's in and 80's, fashion models really were smiling when the cameras hit them with the flash. Indeed, the rare model above was shown in a video recently smiling. So adorable, we had to put her on my site. But still, when she was spotted wearing the clothes, there wasn't a smile anywhere - except for a brief moment.
In today's runway society, smiles appear to be very rare. The most you'll get is a tired, angry-looking model with few smiles anywhere. It's like the fashion houses said "Look, just wear these awful clothes, don't smile, and star straight ahead." How original.
I disagree with the theory if you smile while wearing the clothes, it detracts from the looks. If a model smiles, it means that person is enjoying the look and clothes. It's like driving a fancy car: Wouldn't you want your product to show people happily enjoying it?
Why yes, yes you would.
The austere, serious look is kind of old now. I guess it would be better than having a lunatic smile, covered in anger. Having models battle on stage in mock battles using swords.
Despite the ridiculous rainbow-colored dress, the smile makes a massive difference. Does anyone believe the stoic, angry model wearing Versace and grimacing? Is she happy? No? Moving on.
